The Slow Good-Bye
This past Friday was my last day working at Calvary Chapel Melbourne (CCM). It probably won’t fully hit me until later today that this chapter of my life is officially closed, and the new Dallas chapter is about to be opened.
Working at my home church has been an incredible blessing to me in so many ways. It has opened my eyes to areas that I have room to grow in, unhealthy habits I need to conquer, and strengths and talents I need to tap into more. As we get ready to move to Dallas, finding a new home church will be crucial for us, especially since we don’t have close friends or family living in Dallas.
The hardest part of leaving Melbourne is leaving behind our network of support. Our network of support for me is like Linus’s security blanket (The Peanuts comic strips). Linus doesn’t go anywhere without his blanket, and often times when his friends and family tease him about what he will do with it when he is older, he responds, “I think I will turn it into a sports coat.” Not having close friends and family to turn to will feel like my security blanket has been taken away from me when I need it the most. But that is okay. The times in my life that I have grown the most spiritually was during the seasons where I had to start over, and once again trust in the Lord to be my strength and constant companion. The one nice difference from my single day adventures will be that I have my best friend and husband making the journey with me.
I will be attempting to write in this more over the next few weeks, as we get ready to make the big move from Florida to Texas. Please keep us in prayer that we have the eyes and ears to see and hear God’s direction in what church He wants us to plant roots, as well as for us to make strong, healthy friendships in our future neighborhood, employment, and church. Thanks!
